Finally…
Yes, I know that it has been a long, long…long time since I’ve posted and shared some of my news…or no news, so it’s about time that I get busy and get back to it. So I will try to catch up without being too maudlin or sound as though I am sitting under a toadstool on a rainy day and whining. The past couple of years have been more than a little difficult for me to deal with healthwise. Because of this, unfortunately I’ve had to put some of my favorite things (such as writing and painting) aside for a while. My poor agent probably thinks that I’ve kicked the bucket, but things haven’t gone that far. After dealing with surgery for cancer, surviving two strokes, back surgery, and although I’m going to be facing more back surgery in the future, things are beginning to get much, much better.Â
Before my health decided to act up, I had some wonderful stories that I’d been working on and the characters have now been impatiently knocking and demanding that I put them back to work. My muse has also been giving me some very strong pokes, pushing me toward my laptop and reminding that with the warm weather coming I’ll soon be able to begin writing in my favorite spot on my lakeside balcony. A few new story ideas have also been tempting me to do more than just think about them. Maybe I’ll give it a try this weekend.Â
In March I did spend a few nights painting in my studio and was able to get a new painting done for the t-shirts for the 2009 Natchez PowWow and with that job finished, I have even started a new painting, something I hadn’t done in over a year. It felt wonderful to be doing something creative again.Â
Speaking of Natchez, my sister Faith and I made our annual pilgrimage to one of our favorite places in the world. There is something about that delightful small city that feeds our souls and gives up happy hearts. It was wonderful seeing old friends and making new ones. Although the weather was a little iffy – a few hours of pouring rain on Friday evening dampened the usual pre-dance outside party and needed a few changes to be made for the set up at the museum grounds for the rest of the weekend, but overall, the powwow was fabulous. Van Big Horse (Osage) brought his guys from Oklahoma to sing and being able to sing in the “ladies’ chorus” with these guys is a real treat. On Sunday evening, Faith and I made our usual visit to Natchez Under-the-Hill and spent a couple of hours on the riverboat. Once again Lady Luck tapped me on the shoulder and sent me home with a few more $$$ than I had when I stepped on board. I love those triple diamond $1 slots! Â
Many thanks to all of you who have kept in touch with me and have kept encouraging me through these difficult times. Your friendships mean so much to me. Thank you, thank you. Now, I’m going to go dust off my laptop, get out my notes, pop the jump drive in my USB, and get some writing done. I’ve got a fabulous hero whispering in my ear telling me he wants me to start writing his story so you can all to find him irresistible and fall in love with him.Â
